 WHAT IS SEATTLE SAKE? Seattle SAKE is a national and international dragon boat organization that promotes the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of dragon boating to the community at-large. HISTORY OF SEATTLE SAKE In 1996, a group of eight friends from the Seattle area participated in dragon boat racing outside of the area. They gathered more friends together and started a single team. The team initially practiced in Voyageur Canoes until, with generous donations, the group pooled together enough funds to purchase their very own dragon boat in 1999. Through word of mouth, the dragon boating crowd grew and was named Club SAKE. Club SAKE was formally incorporated in 2001 as Seattle SAKE Dragon Boat Club. Since then, it has grown to over 200 members and six teams: Team SAKE, Absolut SAKE, Hot SAKE, Sakeccino (Starbucks employees), Vintage SAKE our Masters team (age 40+) and Survivor SAKE, a women survivors of all-cancers team. SEATTLE SAKE TODAY As a 501C(3) non-profit sports club, our main mission is to foster amateur athletes and teams in the sport of dragon boat racing and to compete in National and International races. Since 2003, SEATTLE SAKE is a full member of the Pacifc Dragon Boat Association (PDBA) - regional representatives for Hawaii, California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada and Alaska with regional affiliations to the United States Dragon Boat Federation (USDBF) and associate membership to the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF). Racing season runs from March through October every year. . Our teams travel domestically and internationally to compete against teams from all over the world.
