MakaKoa brings decades of competitive OC & DB paddling experience. He was on the 2011 and 2013 Dragonboat US National Teams, has competed all over the world. He was the Head Coach and President of Kanalui Outrigger Club of Miami 2004-2020 and coach of Kikaha O Ke Kai 2025-2026. And is currently the co-owner of Paddlezoo. Along with teaching, MakaKoa loves connecting people in the paddle community, which inlcudes the likes of Lewis Laughlin/Tahiti, Johnny Puakea, Danny Ching, Jim Foti, Corina Gage, Nephi Tevia, Paolo Amiglio & Robert MacNamara. With a masters degree in exercise physiology and MakaKoa uses everything he’s learned to support his passion of helping others improve in their paddling.
